Step-by-step instructions for replacing the rear crankshaft oil seal on a Citroen C4:
1. Prepare the vehicle: Place the vehicle on a stand or lift to provide safe and easy access to the underside of the vehicle.
2. Remove the engine guard: Using a wrench, remove the engine guard or mudguard to gain access to the transmission.
3. Disconnect the drive shaft: Disconnect the drive shaft from the transmission. To do this, you will need a special tool to remove the drive.
4. Remove the transmission: Remove the bolts securing the transmission to the engine. Carefully separate the transmission from the engine and remove it.
5. Clean the surface: Thoroughly clean the crankshaft oil seal area of old sealant and dirt using brake cleaner and a rag.
6. Install a new oil seal: Apply sealant to the outer edge of the new oil seal and insert it into the seat on the crankshaft. Gently tap it into place using a suitable tool.
7. Install the Transmission: Lift the transmission into place and align it with the engine. Tighten the mounting bolts.
8. Attach the drive shaft: Connect the drive shaft to the transmission.
9. Install the engine guard: Reinstall the engine guard or mudguard.
10. Fill with transmission fluid: Check the transmission fluid level and, if necessary, add to the required level.
