Automatic transmission speed sensors in Chrysler Voyager

The Chrysler Voyager uses multiple speed sensors to monitor vehicle speed and relay information to the transmission control module (TCM) and engine control module (ECM).

1. Automatic transmission input shaft speed sensor

* Located on the input shaft of the automatic transmission
* Monitors input shaft rotation speed
* Informs the TCM about engine speed

2. Automatic transmission output shaft speed sensor

* Located on the output shaft of the automatic transmission
* Monitors output shaft rotation speed
* Informs the TCM about vehicle speed

3. Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)

* Typically located on the rear differential or wheel hub
* Monitors wheel speed
*Informs ECM and TCM about vehicle speed

4.Transmission Speed Sensor (TSS)

*Sometimes used in newer Voyager models
* Integrated into TCM
* Monitors the speed of rotation of the input and output shafts of the automatic transmission

Malfunctions of automatic transmission speed sensors

Faulty automatic transmission speed sensors can lead to the following problems:

*Hard shifting
*Transmission slipping
*Check Engine light comes on
* Incorrect speedometer or odometer readings

Diagnostics

Diagnosis of faulty automatic transmission speed sensors usually includes:

* Visual inspection of wiring and connectors
* Read trouble codes (DTC) using scanner
* Measuring resistance or voltage on sensors using a multimeter
*Checking the sensor waveform using an oscilloscope
