Tools and materials:

* Set of keys and sockets
* Driver or ratchet
* Pliers
* Oil filter puller
* Container for draining transmission fluid
* New transmission fluid
* Sealant
* Carburetor cleaner (optional)

Precautions:

* Make sure the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
* Install wheel chocks under the wheels.
* Disconnect the battery.

Removal procedure:

1. Drain the transmission fluid. Locate the transmission pan and remove the drain plug. Allow the liquid to drain completely into the container.
2. Disconnect the battery cable. This must be done to prevent short circuits when working with wiring.
3. Disconnect the air filter and its housing. Disconnect the air duct from the throttle body and unscrew the bolts securing the air filter housing. Remove the housing.
4. Disconnect the gear selector connector. Locate the connector on the transmission and press the latch to disconnect it.
5. Disconnect the control cables. Disconnect the cables from the gearbox by unhooking them from the corresponding levers.
6. Disconnect the starter. Remove the bolts securing the starter to the engine and transmission. Carefully remove the starter.
7. Disconnect the exhaust system. Remove the bolts securing the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Lower the exhaust pipe.
8. Disconnect the drive shafts. Unscrew the nuts securing the drive shafts to the wheel hubs. Drive the drive shafts out of the hubs using a hammer. Then unscrew the bolts holding the drive shafts to the transmission and remove them.
9. Unscrew the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine. Use a socket with a long extension to remove all bolts.
10. Move the transmission away from the engine. Carefully slide the transmission away from the engine using a lever or pry bar.
11. Remove the gearbox. Remove the transmission completely from under the vehicle.

Reassembly:

1. Install a new transmission pan gasket.
2. Reinstall the gearbox. Carefully lift the transmission and place it in place.
3. Tighten the transmission mounting bolts.
4. Connect the drive shafts. Insert the drive shafts into the transmission and tighten the bolts. Install the drive shafts into the wheel hubs and tighten the nuts.
5. Connect the exhaust system. Connect the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold and tighten the bolts.
6. Connect the starter. Install the starter and tighten the bolts.
7. Connect control cables. Connect the cables to the gearbox and secure them.
8. Connect the gear selector connector. Connect the connector to the transmission.
9. Install the air filter and its housing. Connect the air duct to the throttle body and secure the air filter housing.
10. Connect the battery cable. Connect the wire to the battery.
11. Fill with new transmission fluid. Fill the recommended amount of transmission fluid through the filler hole.
12. Start the engine and check the fluid level. Start the engine and let it idle. Check the fluid level with the dipstick and add if necessary.
