Replacing the left wheel automatic transmission oil seal on a Chevrolet Lacetti
Tools:
* Wrench set
* Flat head screwdriver
* Mount
* New automatic transmission drive oil seal
Materials:
* Automatic transmission fluid (if the automatic transmission drive is removed/installed)
Instructions:
1. Preparation
* Place the vehicle on a level surface and secure it with the parking brake.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Removing the wheel and brake caliper
* Unscrew the wheel mounting bolts and remove it.
* Unscrew the brake caliper mounting bolts and disconnect it from the hub. Tie the caliper with wire or rope to avoid damaging the brake hose.
3. Removing the automatic transmission drive (if necessary)
* If replacing the oil seal requires removing the automatic transmission drive, unscrew the nut securing the drive shaft to the hub and remove the drive from the gearbox.
4. Replacing the oil seal
* Using a flathead screwdriver, carefully pry up the old oil seal and remove it from its seat.
* Clean the seat from dirt and remnants of the old oil seal.
* Apply a thin layer of transmission fluid to the seal lip of the new seal.
* Place the new oil seal in place and press it in gently with your fingers or a suitable tool.
5. Installation of automatic transmission drive (if necessary)
* If the automatic transmission drive has been removed, install it back and tighten the fastening nut.
6. Installing the brake caliper
* Reinstall the brake caliper and tighten the mounting bolts.
7. Wheel installation
* Install the wheel and tighten the mounting bolts.
8. Filling with transmission fluid (if the automatic transmission drive was removed)
* If the automatic transmission drive has been removed, check the transmission fluid level and add it if necessary.
9. Leak test
* Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
* Inspect the oil seal installation location for leaks.
