Chevrolet Lacetti transmission radiator (automatic)
The transmission cooler (also known as the transmission fluid cooler) is an important component of automatic transmissions. Its task is to cool the transmission fluid, which heats up during operation of the gearbox.
Radiator location
The Chevrolet Lacetti gearbox radiator is located in the front part of the engine radiator. It is connected to the transmission by two hoses and is usually located at the bottom of the engine radiator.
Heatsink function
The transmission cooler works as follows:
1. Transmission Fluid Circulation: Transmission fluid circulates through the radiator, absorbing heat from the transmission.
2. Heat Transfer: Radiator fins or fins increase the surface area in contact with the air, allowing heat transfer between the transmission fluid and the surrounding air.
3. Fluid Cooling: As transmission fluid flows through the radiator, it cools as heat is transferred to the air.
4. Cooled Fluid Return: The cooled transmission fluid is returned to the transmission where it is recirculated and cools the internal components.
Symptoms of a faulty transmission cooler
Signs of a failing transmission cooler may include:
* Transmission overheating
* Darkening or burning odor of transmission fluid
*Transmission fluid leak from radiator
*Reduced transmission performance
* Slipping or jerking when shifting gears
Replacing the transmission radiator
If the transmission cooler is faulty, it must be replaced. The replacement process can be complex and requires special tools and experience. It is recommended that you have the radiator replaced by a qualified mechanic.
