Replacing the inner left CV joint on a Chevrolet Epica with automatic transmission
Tools and materials:
* Set of socket wrenches and sockets
* Snap ring wrench
* Hammer and chisel
* Grease for CV joints
* New left inner CV joint
* Jack and stands
Procedure:
1. Raise the car:
* Place the vehicle on a level and stable surface.
* Raise the front left side of the car using a jack and secure it to stands.
2. Remove the wheel:
* Loosen the wheel nuts while the vehicle is still on the ground.
* Raise the vehicle and remove the wheel nuts completely.
* Remove the wheel.
3. Disconnect the drive shaft:
* Locate the inner end of the drive shaft that connects to the transmission.
*Using a socket wrench, remove the nut securing the drive shaft to the transmission.
* Remove the drive shaft from the transmission by gently pulling it towards you.
4. Remove the CV joint:
* Locate the retaining ring that holds the CV joint to the drive shaft.
* Using a circlip wrench, remove the circlip.
*Using a hammer and chisel, carefully knock the CV joint out of the drive shaft.
5. Inspect the drive shaft:
* Inspect the drive shaft for any damage or wear.
* Replace the drive shaft if necessary.
6. Install a new CV joint:
* Apply CV joint grease to the drive shaft splines.
* Insert the new CV joint onto the drive shaft and tap it with a hammer until it seats.
* Install a stop ring to secure the CV joint.
7. Install the drive shaft:
*Insert the drive shaft into the transmission.
* Tighten the nut securing the drive shaft to the transmission.
8. Install the wheel:
* Install the wheel onto the hub.
* Tighten the wheel nuts.
* Lower the vehicle to the ground.
9. Tighten the wheel nuts:
*Tighten the wheel nuts sufficiently using a socket wrench.
10. Check the fluid level in the automatic transmission:
* Start the engine and let it warm up.
* Shift the automatic transmission selector to each position and return it back to the parking position.
* Check the fluid level in the automatic transmission using a dipstick.
Adviсe:
* Operate in a clean environment to prevent dirt from getting into the CV joint or transmission.
* Be careful when driving out the CV joint to avoid damaging the drive shaft or CV joint.
* Use new CV joint grease and snap rings to prevent premature wear.
