Chevrolet Aveo automatic transmission selector position sensor
Location:
*On the right side of the transmission, under the shift lever
Function:
* The automatic transmission selector position sensor detects the position of the gear selector and transmits information to the engine control module (ECM).
*This information is used for:
* Torque converter lock-up control
* Detection of gears to enable cruise control
* Diagnosis of transmission faults
Design:
* The sensor consists of several switches that are activated when the gear shift lever is moved.
* Switches make or break circuits by causing a change in electrical resistance or voltage in the signal wire.
Sensor types:
There are two types of automatic transmission selector position sensors used in the Chevrolet Aveo:
* Magnetoresistive (MR) Shift Position Sensor: Uses magnetoresistive sensors to sense the magnetic field generated by the switches.
*Non-magnetoresistive (NMR) selector position sensor: Uses conventional mechanical switches rather than magnetoresistive sensors.
Possible faults:
*A faulty sensor can cause the following problems:
* Incorrect detection of gear shift position
* Torque converter slippage
* Cruise control errors
*Transmission related diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Replacement:
If the automatic transmission selector position sensor is faulty, it must be replaced. The replacement process may vary depending on the type of sensor and Chevrolet Aveo model. Refer to your vehicle’s service manual for detailed instructions.
