Shifting gears in a Chevrolet Aveo with an automatic transmission

The automatic transmission (AT) in the Chevrolet Aveo is controlled by the gear lever located on the center console. The lever moves in the following positions:

* Park (P): Locks the gearbox and only engages when the vehicle is stationary.
* Reverse (R): To move the vehicle backwards.
* Neutral (N): Disables the transmission.
* Drive (D): For normal forward movement.
*Manual Mode (M): Allows you to manually change gears using the gear lever.

Using manual mode

To switch to manual mode, move the gear lever to the “M” position. To upshift, move the lever up, and to downshift, move the lever down. The gearbox displays the selected gear on the instrument panel.

Overdrive mode

The Overdrive (O/D) switch is located on the gear lever. When O/D is engaged (switch in the “ON” position), the transmission automatically shifts to higher gears to improve fuel economy. When O/D is turned off (switch in the “OFF” position), the transmission holds lower gears for better acceleration and engine braking.

Using the gearbox in various situations

* Normal driving: Use position “D”.
*Acceleration: Switch to manual mode and downshift.
*Downhill: Switch to manual mode and downshift for engine braking.
* Long climb: Switch to manual mode and downshift for improved power.
* Towing: Switch to manual mode and downshift for better speed control and power.

Automatic transmission service

To ensure optimal operation of the automatic transmission, it is recommended to service it regularly. This includes:

* Changing transmission oil and filter
* Checking the automatic transmission oil level
* Maintenance of solenoids and valve block
