Checking the automatic transmission oil level on a Volvo XC60
Materials:
* Engine oil for Volvo automatic transmission (approval JWS 3327)
* Dipstick for checking the automatic transmission fluid level
* Clean rags
Tools:
* 17 mm wrench
Procedure:
1. Place the car on a level surface. Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
2. Start the engine and let it idle. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes to warm up the automatic transmission oil.
3. Switch the automatic transmission selector to all positions. Switch the automatic transmission selector to all positions (P, R, N, D, S/M) and hold in each position for a few seconds.
4. Open the hood. Pull the hood release lever and raise the hood.
5. Find the dipstick to check the automatic transmission fluid level. The dipstick is usually located on the passenger side of the engine, near the air filter.
6. Remove the dipstick. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth.
7. Insert the dipstick back. Insert the dipstick completely back into the tube.
8. Remove the dipstick and check the level. Pull the dipstick out again and check the oil level on the dipstick. The oil should be between the “MIN” and “MAX” marks on the dipstick.
9. Add oil if necessary. If the oil level is below the “MIN” mark, add Volvo automatic transmission engine oil through the dipstick inspection hole. Fill a little at a time and check the level until it reaches the “MAX” mark.
10. Wipe the dipstick and reinsert it. Wipe the dipstick with a clean rag and reinsert it into the tube.
11. Close the hood. Lower the hood and close it.
Adviсe:
* Check the automatic transmission fluid level regularly, especially before long trips.
* Use only Volvo automatic transmission oil with JWS 3327 approval.
*If the oil level is low or high, this may indicate a problem with the automatic transmission. Contact a mechanic for diagnosis and repair.
* Do not overfill the automatic transmission with oil, as this may cause damage.
