Checking the oil level in the automatic transmission of Toyota RAV4
Required tools:
* Dipstick
* Clean rag
Steps:
1. Start the engine and warm it up. The oil must be at operating temperature for accurate measurements.
2. Place the car on a flat surface. This will ensure an accurate oil level measurement.
3. Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes. This will allow the oil to drain into the oil pan.
4. Remove the transmission dipstick. It is usually located near the front of the engine.
5. Wipe the dipstick with a clean cloth. This will remove the old oil.
6. Insert the dipstick back into the tube and remove it again. The oil level should be between the “HOT” and “COLD” marks on the dipstick.
7. If necessary, add oil to the gearbox. Use oil recommended by the manufacturer. Do not overfill the oil.
8. Check the oil level again. The level should be between the “HOT” and “COLD” marks.
9. Reinstall the dipstick.
Notes:
* Check the gearbox oil level every 10,000 – 15,000 km or as recommended by the manufacturer.
*To maintain optimal oil level, oil may need to be added between checks.
*If the oil level is too low or too high, transmission performance may be affected.
* Regularly changing the transmission oil and filter will extend its service life.
