Checking the automatic transmission solenoid on an Opel Omega B
Tools:
* Multimeter
* Set of keys
Execution order:
1. Determine the location of the automatic transmission solenoids:
The automatic transmission solenoids on the Opel Omega B are located on the gearbox housing.
2. Remove the automatic transmission pan:
* Unscrew the automatic transmission pan bolts.
* Carefully remove the pan and drain the transmission fluid into a clean container.
3. Find solenoids:
* The solenoids will be visible on the automatic transmission housing after removing the pan.
4. Disconnect the electrical connectors of the solenoids:
* Press the connector latches and disconnect them from the solenoids.
5. Check the resistance of the solenoids:
* Set the multimeter to the resistance scale.
* Connect the multimeter leads to the solenoid contacts.
* The ideal resistance value for Opel Omega B automatic transmission solenoids is 8-15 Ohms.
6. Check activation of solenoids:
* Connect the solenoid connectors back to the solenoids.
* Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
*Using an OBD2 scanner or dedicated diagnostic tool, activate the solenoids manually.
*You should hear a slight click when the solenoid is activated.
*If the solenoid does not activate, this indicates a faulty solenoid or wiring.
7. Install the automatic transmission pan:
* Reinstall the pan gasket.
*Apply a small amount of transmission sealant to the pan bolts.
* Screw on the automatic transmission pan and tighten the bolts.
8. Fill with transmission fluid:
* Fill the automatic transmission with the required amount of transmission fluid.
* Check the fluid level and add if necessary.
9. Reset automatic transmission adaptations:
* Disconnect the battery for a few minutes.
* Reconnect the battery.
* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
* Switch the automatic transmission selector to each position (P, R, N, D) and hold it in each position for several seconds.
* This will reset the automatic transmission adaptations and allow it to re-adapt to the new settings.
