Materials:
* Fresh gear oil that meets manufacturer’s recommendations
* New automatic transmission oil pan gasket or silicone sealant
Equipment:
* Installation for changing automatic transmission oil (recommended, but not required)
* Funnel
* Wrenches
* Transmission dipstick
* Rags or oil pan
Instructions:
1. Start the engine and warm up the automatic transmission. Bring the fluid temperature to the recommended operating temperature (usually around 50-60°C).
2. Stop the engine and place the vehicle on a lift. Make sure the vehicle is securely secured.
3. Locate the automatic transmission oil pan drain plug. It is usually located at the bottom of the tray.
4. Place a pan under the drain plug to collect the oil. Unscrew the drain plug to drain the old transmission fluid.
5. While the old fluid is draining, remove the automatic transmission oil pan. Unscrew the bolts or nuts securing the pan and carefully remove it.
6. Replace the gasket or apply silicone sealant. Clean the surface of the oil pan and automatic transmission housing from old gasket or sealant. Apply a new gasket or silicone sealant.
7. Reinstall the automatic transmission oil pan. Tighten bolts or nuts to the specified torque.
8. Fill in new transmission oil through the dipstick. Use a funnel to avoid spillage.
9. Start the engine and shift through all gears. This will help pump new fluid through the system.
10. Check the transmission fluid level. Bring the level to the “cold” or “hot” mark on the dipstick depending on the fluid temperature.
11. Stop the engine and allow the transmission fluid to cool. Wait about 10-15 minutes until the liquid cools to room temperature.
12. Check the transmission fluid level again. If the level is low, add liquid to the hot line.
13. Clean up spilled liquid and dispose of it properly.
Adviсe:
* Use transmission oil recommended by your vehicle manufacturer.
* Change the transmission fluid regularly according to the intervals specified in the owner’s manual.
* If you change the oil yourself, be sure to monitor the fluid level and add it as needed.
*If you are unsure of your mechanical skills, have your automatic transmission oil changed by an experienced mechanic.
