Materials:

* New automatic transmission oil (check your vehicle’s specifications in your owner’s manual)
* New automatic transmission oil filter
* New automatic transmission oil pan gasket
* Allen key or wrench for unscrewing the drain plug
* Flat blade screwdriver for removing oil pan
* Measuring cup or funnel for pouring oil

Tools:

* Set of wrenches or spanners
* Funnel
* Lift or pit for access to automatic transmission

Procedure:

1. Raise the car: Use a lift or drive the car onto a pit to gain access to the automatic transmission from below.

2. Install an oil pan: Place a large oil pan under the automatic transmission drain plug.

3. Loosen the drain plug: Using a socket wrench or wrench, carefully loosen the automatic transmission drain plug located at the bottom of the oil pan.

4. Drain the old oil: Allow the old oil to drain into the collection pan. This will take some time.

5. Replace the drain plug: Once the old oil has drained, replace the drain plug and tighten it.

6. Remove the oil pan: Using a flat-blade screwdriver, carefully remove the automatic transmission oil pan from the transmission housing.

7. Remove the old oil filter: Locate the oil filter on the oil pan and remove it using a wrench or by hand.

8. Install New Oil Filter: Take the new oil filter and install it into the filter housing on the oil pan. Hand tighten it and then use a wrench to tighten it to the torque specified in the owner’s manual.

9. Clean the oil pan: Remove any old oil or debris from the oil pan.

10. Install a new oil pan gasket: Take the new oil pan gasket and install it onto the oil pan.

11. Attach the oil pan: Carefully attach the oil pan to the transmission housing. Tighten all bolts evenly, working in a crisscross pattern.

12. Fill with new oil: Using a funnel, pour the recommended amount of new oil into the automatic transmission. Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick.

13. Start the engine: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Shift the gear selector through all positions and return to the park position.

14. Check the oil level again: Wait a few minutes for the oil to settle, then check the oil level again using the dipstick. If necessary, adjust the oil level.

15. Reset automatic transmission adaptations: If your vehicle is equipped with an adaptive automatic transmission, you may need to reset its adaptations. The reset procedure is usually described in the user manual.
