Replacing transmission fluid in an automatic transmission Kia Sportage 2014.
Caution: Always use genuine Kia transmission fluid recommended for your specific model.
Required tools and materials:
* 5 liters of Kia ATF-SP III transmission fluid
* New automatic transmission filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Funnel
* Wrench set
* Pliers
* Gloves
Procedure:
1. Preparation:
* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to allow the transmission fluid to warm up.
* Turn off the engine and park the car.
2. Draining old fluid:
* Find the automatic transmission pan drain plug.
* Place a tray under the plug to collect the liquid.
* Carefully unscrew the drain plug. Be prepared for the oil to pour out immediately.
* Drain as much old fluid as possible into the pan.
3. Replacing the filter and gasket:
* Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan.
* Remove the pan and carefully remove the old filter.
* Clean the pan and the filter installation area.
* Install a new filter and a new gasket.
4. Installing the tray and tightening the plug:
* Apply a small amount of new transmission fluid to the pan gasket.
* Reinstall the pan and tighten the bolts.
5. Filling the automatic transmission with new fluid:
* Find the automatic transmission filler plug.
* Insert a funnel into the filler hole.
* Fill with new transmission fluid until it begins to flow out of the filler hole.
6. Checking the fluid level:
* Remove the funnel and stopper.
* Start the engine and shift the gear selector to each position, holding each position for a few seconds.
* Return to park position and let the engine idle.
* Check the fluid level on the automatic transmission dipstick. The level should be between the “HOT” and “COLD” marks.
7. Resetting the automatic transmission oil change counter:
*Connect the diagnostic scanner to the car.
* Find in the menu the option to reset the automatic transmission oil change counter.
*Follow the instructions on the scanner to reset the counter.
8. Completion:
* Make sure the fluid level is within the acceptable range.
* Close the filler hole.
* Dispose of waste fluid and filter properly.
Adviсe:
* It is recommended to change the transmission fluid and filter every 60,000 km or every 4 years, whichever comes first.
* Check the automatic transmission fluid level every 12 months or 20,000 km.
*If the fluid has a dark color or a burning smell, it may need to be replaced more frequently.
