Materials required to change automatic transmission fluid in Suzuki Vitara:
* Automatic transmission fluid Suzuki ATF 3317 (volume depends on the model and year of manufacture)
* New automatic transmission pan gasket
* Sealant for automatic transmission pan
* Automatic transmission filter (if necessary)
* Funnel
* Set of keys and screwdrivers
Instructions for changing automatic transmission fluid:
1. Safety: Make sure the vehicle is in park, the engine is off and the key is removed.
2. Locate the automatic transmission drain and fill plugs: Locate the drain and fill plugs on the automatic transmission housing. They are usually shaped like hexagons or bolts.
3. Raise the vehicle: Raise the vehicle on a lift or using a jack and stands.
4. Drain the old fluid: Place a suitable container with a capacity of at least 4 liters under the drain plug. Loosen the drain plug with a wrench and drain the old fluid into a container. Let the liquid drain completely.
5. Replace the pan gasket: Remove the automatic transmission pan by unscrewing its bolts. Replace the old pan gasket with a new one. Apply sealant to the new gasket before installing the pan.
6. Replace the automatic transmission filter (if necessary): If you are planning to replace the automatic transmission filter, do it now. Remove the old filter and install a new one in its place.
7. Tighten the drain plug: Clean the drain plug and new copper washer and tighten the plug to the recommended torque.
8. Fill with new fluid: Using a funnel, pour the recommended amount of new ATF into the automatic transmission through the filler plug.
9. Start the engine: Start the engine at idle speed and shift the automatic transmission selector to different positions to circulate the fluid.
10. Check the fluid level: Check the fluid level on the automatic transmission dipstick. Add fluid if necessary.
11. Reset the automatic transmission fluid life cycle counter: Reset the automatic transmission fluid life cycle counter using the diagnostic scanner. This will help keep track of the need for fluid changes in the future.
Note:
* It is recommended to change the automatic transmission fluid every 60,000 – 100,000 km or more often if the car is often used in difficult conditions.
*Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations found in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
*If you are unsure how to change the automatic transmission fluid, it is recommended that you consult a certified mechanic.
