Required materials:
* New automatic transmission oil: 7-8 liters (it is recommended to use original Kia oil)
* New oil filter for automatic transmission
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Washers for drain and filler plugs
* Tool set
* Funnel
* Clean pallet
Instructions for changing automatic transmission oil in Kia Sorento 2018:
1. Preparation:
* Place the car on a flat surface.
* Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
* Wear gloves and safety glasses.
2. Draining old oil:
* Locate the drain plug at the bottom of the automatic transmission pan.
* Place a clean pan under the drain plug.
* Carefully unscrew the drain plug using a wrench.
* Let the oil drain into the pan.
3. Removing the automatic transmission pan:
* After the oil has drained, take a ratchet wrench with an extension and unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan.
* Carefully remove the pan from the automatic transmission, taking care not to damage the gasket.
4. Replacing the automatic transmission oil filter:
* Find the automatic transmission oil filter in the pan.
*Remove and discard the old oil filter.
* Install a new oil filter into the pan.
5. Installing the automatic transmission pan gasket:
* Remove the old automatic transmission pan gasket.
* Clean the surface of the pan and automatic transmission from the remains of the old gasket.
* Install a new gasket on the automatic transmission pan.
6. Installing the automatic transmission pan:
* Lift the automatic transmission pan and install it in place.
* Tighten all bolts securing the automatic transmission pan.
7. Filling with new oil:
* Locate the filler plug on the side of the automatic transmission.
* Insert a funnel into the filler plug and pour new oil into the automatic transmission.
* Fill in the required amount of oil (7-8 liters).
8. Checking the automatic transmission oil level:
* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Move the automatic transmission selector to each position and back to parking.
* Press the brake pedal and check the automatic transmission oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick.
* The oil level should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the dipstick.
9. Resetting the automatic transmission service counter:
* Reset the automatic transmission service counter by following the instructions in the vehicle’s owner’s manual.
10. Final stages:
* Tighten the drain and filler plugs with new washers.
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Make sure all bolts and plugs are properly tightened.
Adviсe:
* It is recommended to change the automatic transmission oil every 60,000-80,000 km or in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
* Check the automatic transmission oil level every 15,000-20,000 km.
*If the automatic transmission oil is black or has a burning smell, this may indicate transmission problems and should be checked and serviced by a qualified mechanic.
