Required materials:
* New gear shift knob
* Set of screwdrivers or hex keys
* Possibly lubricant (depending on handle type)
Instructions:
1. Remove the gear shift knob cover.
* Remove the plastic trim around the handle, which is often secured with snaps or small bolts.
2. Disconnect the button or switch connectors.
* If there are buttons or switches on the handle, disconnect their connectors.
3. Unscrew the gear shift knob bolt.
* Locate the bolt under the shift knob and remove it with a screwdriver or hex wrench.
4. Remove the old gear shift knob.
* Pull the handle up and remove it from the shift rod.
5. Apply lubricant to the new handle shaft.
*If necessary, apply a small amount of lubricant to the new shift knob shaft.
6. Install a new gear shift knob.
* Insert the stem of the new knob into the shift rod and push the knob down until it snaps into place.
7. Tighten the shift knob bolt.
* Tighten the bolt that holds the handle in place. Do not overtighten the bolt.
8. Connect the connectors for buttons and switches.
* If necessary, connect the button or switch connectors to the new handle.
9. Reinstall the shift knob cover.
* Place the plastic cover over the handle and secure it with latches or bolts.
