Car electrician diagnostician

Responsibilities:

* Diagnostics and identification of faults in vehicle electrical systems
* Repair and replacement of electrical components such as starters, alternators, batteries and wiring
* Testing and troubleshooting electronic systems such as engine management systems and lighting systems
* Installation and configuration of car audio and video systems
* Conducting maintenance and routine inspections of electrical systems

Skills and knowledge:

* In-depth knowledge of the operating principles of vehicle electrical systems
* Understanding of electronics principles and circuit design
* Knowledge and ability to use diagnostic equipment
* Experience repairing and installing electrical components
*Strong tool and machinery management skills
* Possession of a driver’s license and ability to drive a car

Education and certificates:

* Certificate in Automotive Electrical
* Either:

* Certificate or diploma of completion of a course in automotive electrical engineering

* Knowledge of electronic fuel injection systems
* Understanding of car mechanics
* Experience working in a car repair shop or service station
* Having your own tool

Career:

* An automotive electrician may be eligible for promotion to electrical department manager or technical director.
* Experienced specialists can open their own car service center or become independent diagnosticians.
