Main car wiring connectors
A vehicle’s electrical system includes various connectors that connect various components and carry power and signals. Here are some of the most common types of automotive electrical connectors:
Connectors for on-board network:
* Power Connector (Battery): Connects the battery to other electrical system components. Usually has large terminals and wires.
* Ignition Connector: Activates various electrical components when the key is turned to the ignition position.
* Main Protection Module (FPDM): Distributes power to various circuits and provides overload protection.
Motor Connectors:
*Crankshaft Position Sensor Connector: Monitors the position of the crankshaft and transmits information to the Engine Control Unit (ECU).
*Camshaft Position Sensor Connector: Monitors the position of the camshaft and transmits information to the ECU.
* Knock Sensor Connector: Detects knock (engine knock) and sends information to the ECU to adjust ignition timing.
Body connectors:
* Center Console Connector: Combines multiple connectors for connecting center console components such as the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, audio system, etc.
*Dashboard Connector: Connects the instrument panel to other components such as the speedometer, tachometer and gauges.
*Door Connector: Provides power and signals for door functions such as locking, power windows and speakers.
Light connectors:
* Tail Light Connector: Connects the tail light to the vehicle wiring.
*Headlight Connector: Provides power and signals for headlight functions such as low beam, high beam and turn signals.
Transmission Connectors:
*Transmission Connector: Connects the automatic or manual transmission to the engine management system.
* Reverse Sensor Connector: Detects the reverse gear position and activates the horn or rear view camera.
Other connector types:
* OBD-II Connector: A standard connector that allows diagnostic tools to be connected to vehicles.
* Waterproof Connectors: Used in areas exposed to water or moisture.
* Wire Harness Connectors: Multiple connectors connected by a wire harness to make connecting various components easier.
Proper wiring and maintenance of your vehicle’s electrical connectors is critical to the smooth operation and safety of your electrical system. An incorrect connection can lead to system malfunctions, short circuits and other problems.
