Camshaft position sensor (camshaft sensor)

Function:

* Monitors the position of the camshaft and synchronizes it with the crankshaft.
* Provides a signal to the electronic engine control unit (ECU), which uses this data to control the ignition, fuel injection and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control valves.

Location:

* Usually installed on the engine cylinder head.
*Can be located on the intake or exhaust camshaft.

Types of camshaft sensors:

* Resistance sensor: Changes resistance depending on the position of the camshaft.
* Inductive Sensor: Generates an electrical impulse when a metal tooth on the camshaft passes by it.
* Hall effect sensor: Uses a magnetic field and semiconductor material untuk mendeteksi pergerakan gigi distribusi.

Automatic transmission:

In vehicles with automatic transmission, the camshaft sensor plays a particularly important role because it provides:

* Proper gear shifting: The camshaft sensor transmits a signal to the ECU, which uses it to determine the optimal gear shift point.
* Prevent engine lock-up: The camshaft sensor helps prevent engine lock-up by sending a signal to the ECU, which cuts the ignition if the camshaft is out of sync with the crankshaft.

Camshaft sensor malfunctions:

A faulty camshaft sensor can result in the following symptoms:

* Difficulty starting or stopping the engine
* Rough engine operation
* Deterioration in fuel consumption
*Malfunction indicator light (MIL) illuminated
