Blowing the Mercedes Actros Automatic gearbox
Tools and materials:
* Fresh transmission filter
* Gear oil according to specifications
* 8mm square wrench
* Funnel
* Rags or rags
Steps:
1. Raise the vehicle: Raise the Mercedes Actros on a lift or jack stands to ensure safe access to the gearbox.
2. Locate the drain plug: Underneath the vehicle, locate the transmission drain plug. It is usually located on the oil pan.
3. Install the oil drain pan: Place the oil drain pan under the drain plug.
4. Drain the oil: Using a square wrench, loosen the drain plug and allow the oil to drain into the pan. Let the oil drain for a few minutes until it is completely drained.
5. Replace the drain plug: Tighten the drain plug using a square wrench. Don’t over-tighten.
6. Locate the oil fill plug: Locate the oil fill plug on the transmission. It is usually located on the side or top.
7. Fill the Transmission with Oil: Using a funnel, pour the recommended amount of transmission oil into the transmission. Refer to the instruction manual for exact volume.
8. Check the oil level: Measure the oil level using the transmission dipstick. Add oil as needed until the level reaches the full mark.
9. Install the new filter: Using a square wrench, remove the bolts holding the old filter in place. Remove the old filter and install the new one. Hand tighten the bolts.
10. Lower the vehicle: Lower the Mercedes Actros from the lift or jacks.
11. Take it for a test drive: Take it for a short test drive to check the operation of the transmission. Pay attention to any unusual noises or vibrations.
Notes:
* The transmission should be bled every 100,000 – 150,000 km or as recommended by the manufacturer.
*Use high quality gear oil that meets manufacturer specifications.
* Dispose of used oil and filter in an environmentally friendly manner.
*If you are unsure of your skills, it is recommended that you have a qualified mechanic perform a transmission flush.
