Required tools and materials:
* Car with Mercedes Actros diesel engine with clutch pedal
* Replacing ATF transmission fluid
* Container for draining used ATF fluid
* Special equipment for purging automatic transmissions (device for pressurizing with air)
* Compressor blower
* Transparent hose
* Spare washers for drain plug and fluid level plug
Automatic transmission purging procedure:
1. Preparing the machine:
* Raise and secure the machine on the lift.
* Make sure the engine is off and the transmission is in neutral.
* If necessary, remove the crankcase protection.
2. Draining used ATF:
* Locate the drain plug on the automatic transmission housing.
* Place a container under the drain plug.
* Carefully unscrew the drain plug and allow the used ATF to drain.
3. Connecting purge equipment:
* Connect the pressurizing device to the vehicle’s air system.
*Connect the transparent hose to the pressurization device.
* Insert the other end of the transparent hose into the automatic transmission filler hole.
4. Automatic transmission purging:
* Start the engine and allow it to warm up to operating temperature.
* Start pumping compressed air through the pressurizer.
* Observe the transparent hose to ensure that the used ATF fluid exits the automatic transmission and enters the drain container.
5. Replacing ATF fluid:
* Continue bleeding the automatic transmission until all used ATF has been removed.
* Tighten the drain plug and install a new gasket.
* Fill in new ATF through the automatic transmission filler hole.
* Check the fluid level using the automatic transmission dipstick.
6. Checking the fluid level:
* Start the engine and shift the gear to position «D».
* Check the ATF fluid level on the automatic transmission dipstick.
*Add ATF if necessary.
7. Automatic transmission self-adaptation reset:
* After replacing the ATF fluid, it is recommended to reset the automatic transmission self-adaptation.
*Do this by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for a few minutes and then connecting it again.
8. Completion:
* Reinstall the crankcase guard if necessary.
* Lower the vehicle from the lift.
* Check that the gear shifts correctly and that there are no ATF leaks.
