Automatic transmission with manual shift function (Tiptronic)

Description:

Tiptronic is a type of automatic transmission that combines the convenience of automatic shifting with the ability to manually control shifts.

Working principle:

* In D mode, the transmission operates like a conventional automatic transmission, shifting between gears depending on speed and load.
* To switch to manual mode, the driver moves the gear selector to the «M» position.
* To upshift, the driver moves the selector towards the “+” sign.
* To downshift, the driver moves the selector towards the “-” sign.

Advantages:

* Improved Vehicle Control: Manual shifting allows the driver to select the optimal gear for specific driving conditions, such as improved performance or fuel economy.
*Sporty driving: Tiptronic allows the driver to simulate manual gear shifting for more driving pleasure.
* Engine Braking: By downshifting in manual mode, the driver can use engine braking to slow the vehicle, reducing brake wear.
* Tow Control: Manual shifting can be useful when towing heavy loads, allowing the driver to hold the desired gear for optimal performance and fuel economy.

Flaws:

* Increased driver attention: Manual shifting requires increased driver attention, which can distract from the road situation.
* Possibility of Mechanical Damage: Incorrect gear shifting may result in mechanical damage to the transmission.
* Increased fuel consumption: If manual mode is used incorrectly, fuel consumption may increase compared to automatic mode.

Application:

Tiptronic is often used in sports cars, luxury sedans and four-wheel drive vehicles.
