Reverse direction

In automatic transmissions, reverse mode is usually activated by moving the selector to the “R” position. This position is usually located on the far right or left corner of the shift console and is designated by the letter “R”.

Procedure for switching to reverse mode

1. Stop the vehicle completely and set the parking brake.
2. Press the shift lock button or lever (if equipped).
3. Move the gear selector to the “R” position.
4. Release the brake pedal and gently press the accelerator pedal to start moving backwards.

Cautions

* Never shift into reverse while driving. This can cause serious damage to the transmission.
*Before reversing, make sure there are no obstacles or other vehicles behind you.
* Be careful when driving backwards as visibility may be limited.
* Do not keep the brake pedal depressed at the same time as the accelerator pedal when moving backwards. This can cause overheating and damage to the transmission.
* When driving on a slope, use the handbrake or hold the vehicle with the accelerator pedal to prevent rolling backwards.

Additional information

Some modern automatic transmissions are equipped with a parking assist feature that helps guide the vehicle when reversing. This feature can be especially useful in tight spaces or busy parking lots.
