Kickdown

Kickdown is an automatic transmission feature that allows the driver to quickly downshift for maximum acceleration.

How does kickdown work?

When the driver presses the accelerator pedal hard, the transmission’s kickdown switch is activated. This switch sends a signal to the transmission control module (TCM), which then shifts the transmission down one or more gears.

Benefits of kickdown

Kickdown is used for:

* Fast overtaking or acceleration
* Descent down steep slopes
* Getting out of slippery situations such as snow or mud

How to use kickdown

To use kickdown, the driver must press the accelerator pedal all the way down. The transmission will automatically downshift.

Important:

* Using kickdown may result in increased fuel consumption.
* Excessive use of kickdown can cause premature transmission wear.
*Kickdown should not be used at high speeds or when towing.
