Sensors on the automatic transmission in the Volkswagen Passat B5:

Gear selector position sensor (PRNDL)

*Located on the gearbox housing
* Monitors the position of the gear selector and transmits data to the transmission control module (TCM)

Input shaft speed sensor (G38)

*Located on the transmission input shaft
*Measures input shaft speed and transmits data to TCM

Output shaft speed sensor (G39)

*Located on the gearbox output shaft
*Measures output shaft speed and transmits data to TCM

Oil temperature sensor (G19)

*Located in the transmission pan
* Monitors transmission fluid temperature and transmits data to TCM

Pressure sensor (G196)

*Located in the gearbox housing
* Monitors transmission hydraulic control system pressure and transmits data to TCM

Other sensors:

*Vehicle speed sensor (G2) – used to detect vehicle speed and improve gear shift accuracy
* Throttle position sensor (G70) – used to detect throttle position and optimize transmission performance
* Crankshaft position sensor (G1) – used to determine the position of the engine crankshaft and timing gear changes
