Repair of automatic transmission torque converter lockup

Symptoms of malfunction:

* Slipping when changing gears
* Slipping out of gear
* Increased fuel consumption
* Reduced engine power

Causes of malfunction:

* Wear of friction linings
* Damage to piston
* Contamination of the torque converter
* Spline wear

Repair procedure:

1. Preparation:

* Prepare the necessary tools and materials (new set of friction linings, piston, gaskets, transmission fluid).
* Drain the transmission fluid.

2. Removing the torque converter:

* Unscrew the bolts securing the torque converter to the engine.
* Remove the starter and heat shield.
* Pull out the torque converter.

3. Disassembling the torque converter:

*Remove the locking ring and cover.
* Remove the piston, friction linings and springs.

4. Replacement of faulty parts:

* Replace worn friction linings with new ones.
* If necessary, install a new piston.

5. Torque converter assembly:

* Place the friction linings, springs and piston into the housing.
* Install the locking cover and stand ring.

6. Installation of torque converter:

* Place the torque converter in place in the transmission.
* Tighten the engine mounting bolts.
* Install the heat shield and starter.

7. Setting the transmission fluid level:

* Fill with new transmission fluid.
* Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
* Check the fluid level and add if necessary.

Adviсe:

* Use only original manufacturer parts.
*Clean all parts thoroughly during assembly.
* Check the spline connection between the transmission pump shaft and the torque converter for wear.
* After repair, renew the transmission fluid.
* Start the engine only after setting the fluid level.
