Kia Sorento automatic transmission temperature sensor

Location

* Located in the automatic transmission oil pan.

Description

* It is a thermistor consisting of a variable resistor that is sensitive to temperature.
*As the temperature increases, the resistance of the sensor decreases, and as the temperature decreases, the resistance increases.

Function

*Measures transmission fluid temperature.
* Sends a signal to the transmission control module (TCM) or engine control module (ECM).
* The TCM or ECM uses temperature data to control functions such as:
* Gear shift timing
* Fluid pressure in automatic transmission
* Torque converter lock
* Automatic transmission cooling

Symptoms of malfunction

* Incorrect automatic transmission temperature readings
* Problems with gear shifting
* Automatic transmission overheating
*Power loss
*Check Engine Light (CEL) Illuminated

Replacing the sensor

1. Drain the transmission fluid.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector of the sensor.
3. Unscrew the sensor using a spanner or socket.
4. Install a new sensor.
5. Connect the electrical connector.
6. Fill with transmission fluid.
7. Clear trouble codes.

Recommendations

* Replace the automatic transmission temperature sensor in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
* Use original sensor or high quality replacement.
* When replacing the sensor, ensure cleanliness to prevent contamination from entering the automatic transmission housing.
