Location:

*Under the hood of the car on the right side (passenger side)
*At the top of the gearbox

Appearance:

* Typically round or oval sensor with one or two contacts
*Can be covered with black or gray plastic

Task:

* Monitor the rotation speed of the gearbox output shaft
* Convert rotation speed into electrical signal
* Transmit a signal to the engine electronic control unit (ECU)

Replacement:

* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Place a container under the gearbox to catch any leaking fluid.
* Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
* Remove the bolts or nuts securing the sensor.
* Carefully remove the sensor from the transmission.
* Clean the sensor installation area and apply sealant.
* Place the new sensor in place and secure it.
* Connect the electrical connector.
* Tighten the bolts or nuts.
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
