Function:
The automatic transmission speed sensor converts the rotation speed of the output shaft into an electrical signal, which is used by the automatic transmission ECU to:
* Determines the current vehicle speed
* Gear shift
* Torque converter lockup control
Signs of a faulty automatic transmission speed sensor:
* Incorrect gear shifts
* Errors or warning indicators on the instrument panel
* Deterioration in fuel economy
* Problems with gaining speed
Diagnostics and replacement:
To diagnose a faulty automatic transmission speed sensor, special diagnostic equipment is required. If diagnostics confirm that the sensor is faulty, it must be replaced.
To replace the automatic transmission speed sensor, follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Raise the vehicle on a lift or place it on stands.
3. Find the automatic transmission speed sensor.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector of the sensor.
5. Using a socket wrench or wrench, remove the sensor mounting bolt.
6. Remove the old sensor and install the new one.
7. Tighten the mounting bolt.
8. Connect the electrical connector.
9. Lower the vehicle and connect the negative cable to the battery.
Note: After replacing the automatic transmission speed sensor, you must reset the ECU to set new operating parameters.
