Automatic transmission solenoid valves Ford Focus 2 restyling

Automatic transmission solenoid valves (solenoids) control the flow of transmission fluid in the hydraulic plate, changing gears.

Ford Focus 2 restyling was equipped with two types of automatic transmission:

* 4F27E (4-speed)
* 5F31J (5-speed)

4F27E

| Solenoid number | Destination |
|—|—|
| 6R02 | Low Range Pressures |
| 6R03 | High Range Pressure |
| 6R04 | Shift 1/2/3 gears |
| 6R05 | Shift 4/5 gears / Reverse |

5F31J

| Solenoid number | Destination |
|—|—|
| 6R13 | Low Range Pressures |
| 6R14 | High Range Pressure |
| 6R15 | Shift 1/2/3 gears |
| 6R16 | Turning on the torque converter lock-up |
| 6R17 | Shift 2/3/4/5 gears / Reverse |

Symptoms of faulty automatic transmission solenoids

* Difficulty shifting gears
* Gear slip
* Shocks when shifting gears
* Emergency mode automatic transmission

Causes of solenoid malfunction

* Wear of internal components
* Accumulation of sediments and dirt
* Automatic transmission overheating
*Low transmission fluid level
* Electrical faults

Diagnostics

Malfunctioning automatic transmission solenoids are usually diagnosed using a fault code scanner and checking the resistance of the solenoids using a multimeter.

Repair

Faulty automatic transmission solenoids must be replaced with new ones. This requires removal and disassembly of the hydraulic plate.
