Replacing an automatic transmission solenoid on a Mercedes W211

Required tools and materials:

* Set of socket wrenches or sockets
* Flat head screwdriver
* New automatic transmission solenoid
* Automatic transmission solenoid gasket
* Transmission fluid
* Funnel or syringe for filling transmission fluid
* Clean rags or towels

Precautions:

* Make sure the car engine is cold and turned off.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Raise the vehicle on a lift or place it on secure supports.

Replacement procedure:

1. Determine the location of the solenoid: The solenoid is usually located on the side of the automatic transmission housing.

2. Disconnect the solenoid connectors: Using a flat-head screwdriver, carefully disconnect the electrical connectors from the solenoid.

3. Remove the solenoid bolts: Using a socket wrench or socket, remove the bolts securing the solenoid to the transmission housing.

4. Remove the old solenoid: Gently pull the solenoid up and remove it from the transmission housing.

5. Install a new gasket: Apply some transmission fluid to the new solenoid gasket and install it in place of the old one.

6. Install a new solenoid: Insert the new solenoid into the automatic transmission housing and tighten the mounting bolts.

7. Connect the solenoid connectors: Connect the electrical connectors to the solenoid.

8. Install the automatic transmission pan: Install the automatic transmission pan in place and tighten the fastening bolts.

9. Fill transmission fluid: Using a funnel or syringe, pour transmission fluid into the automatic transmission to the recommended level.

10. Check the fluid level: Start the engine and let it idle. Using the automatic transmission dipstick, check the fluid level and add if necessary.

11. Reset automatic transmission adaptations: Using a diagnostic scan tool or after driving for several kilometers, reset automatic transmission adaptations for optimal performance.

12. Connect the negative battery terminal: Connect the negative battery terminal.
