Toyota Carina automatic transmission selector position sensor

Location:

*Located on the automatic transmission control unit under the center console.
* Connected to the automatic transmission selector by a cable or electrical harness.

Function:

* Determines the position of the automatic transmission selector (P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1).
* Transmits information to the automatic transmission control unit, which adjusts the operation of the transmission accordingly.

Signs of malfunction:

* Inability to change gears or shift gears in the wrong order.
* Fault codes related to the position of the automatic transmission selector.
* Uncontrolled vehicle movement when changing gears.

Examination:

* Visual Inspection: Check the cable or electrical harness for damage or loose connections.
* Using a multimeter: check the voltage and resistance of the automatic transmission selector position sensor in various selector positions.

Replacement:

1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Raise the vehicle on a lift or place it on parking stands.
3. Remove the center console.
4. Remove the cable or electrical harness connecting the automatic transmission selector position sensor to the selector.
5. Unscrew the sensor mounting bolts and remove it.
6. Install the new sensor in reverse order.
7. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
8. Reset fault codes.

Note:

* It is recommended to replace the automatic transmission selector position sensor assembly.
* The position of the sensor must be adjusted after installation.
