Materials:
* New radiator
* Antifreeze
* Gaskets or rubber seals (if necessary)
* Wrenches or ratchet with socket heads or socket wrenches
* Coolant drain container
Steps:
Protective measures:
* Allow the vehicle to cool for several hours to allow the cooling system to cool down.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
Draining the coolant:
* Locate the drain plug on the radiator and place a container under it to drain the coolant.
* Open the drain plug to drain the coolant into the container.
Removing the old radiator:
* Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses from the engine and the radiator itself. You may need to clamp the pipes with pliers.
* Remove the mounting bolts or brackets that hold the radiator in place.
* Carefully remove the old radiator from the car.
Installing a new radiator:
* Place the new radiator in its compartment.
* Install the mounting bolts or brackets and hand-tighten them.
* Connect the upper and lower hoses to the engine and radiator. Make sure gaskets or seals are installed correctly.
Filling with coolant:
* Pour new antifreeze into the radiator until it begins to fill the expansion tank.
* Add antifreeze to the expansion tank up to the “FULL” or “MAX” mark.
Air removal:
* Start the engine at idle speed and let it run for about 10-15 minutes with the radiator cap open.
*As air is removed from the system, the coolant level in the radiator will decrease.
*Add antifreeze as needed until the level stabilizes.
Reconnecting the battery:
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
Leak test:
* Inspect the radiator, pipes and connections for leaks. Repair any leaks found.
Performing a test drive:
* Allow the vehicle to warm up and take it for a short drive to check the functionality of the cooling system. Monitor the engine temperature and coolant level.
