Automatic transmission position sensor for Mercedes-Benz W210
Location:
*Located on the left side of the transmission under the intake manifold.
Function:
* The automatic transmission position sensor transmits information about the current position of the gear selector to the electronic control unit (ECU).
* This information is used by the ECU to:
* Definitions of engaged gear.
* Control of the electrohydraulic unit (EGB) of the automatic transmission.
* Turn on or off the torque converter lock depending on the automatic transmission mode.
Symptoms of a faulty automatic transmission position sensor:
* Incorrect gear indication on the dashboard.
* Jerks or delays when changing gears.
* Errors on the scanner related to the automatic transmission (for example, ‘Incorrect gear selector position’).
* Automatic transmission slipping or complete loss of gear.

Replacing the automatic transmission position sensor:
Replacing an automatic transmission position sensor requires certain technical skills and tools. It is recommended to have this work done by a qualified mechanic.
Step by step replacement procedure:
1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the intake manifold.
3. Disconnect the connector from the automatic transmission position sensor.
4. Remove the bolt(s) securing the sensor to the transmission.
5. Remove the old sensor.
6. Install the new sensor and tighten the bolt(s).
7. Connect the connector to the new sensor.
8. Reinstall the intake manifold.
9. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
10. Reset the automatic transmission adaptations using a diagnostic scanner (recommended).
