Automatic transmission selector position sensor (PRNDS)

Location:

* On the automatic transmission housing, under the gear shift lever

Function:

* Transmits information about the current position of the gearshift lever to the automatic transmission ECU

Symptoms of malfunction:

* Incorrect display of automatic transmission position on the instrument panel
* Inability to change gears
* Jerks and jolts when changing gears

Replacing the automatic transmission selector position sensor:

1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Raise the car on a lift or use jacks.
3. Remove the gear shift lever cover from inside the passenger compartment.
4. Disconnect the connector from the automatic transmission selector lever position sensor.
5. Remove the bolts securing the sensor to the automatic transmission housing.
6. Remove the sensor.
7. Install a new sensor.
8. Connect the connector to the sensor.
9. Secure the sensor with bolts.
10. Reinstall the shift lever housing.
11. Connect the battery terminal.

Notes:

* It is recommended to initialize the automatic transmission after replacing the sensor.
* Make sure the new sensor is compatible with your car model.
*Consult a professional mechanic if you have difficulty replacing the sensor.
