Checking the oil level in the Passat B5 automatic transmission
Materials:
* Dipstick for automatic transmission
* Clean rag
* If necessary, automatic transmission oil
Steps:
1. Start and warm up the engine to operating temperature. This will allow the oil in the automatic transmission to expand and ensure the correct level.
2. Put the car in park and set the parking brake.
3. Open the hood and find the automatic transmission dipstick. It is usually located on the left side of the engine, next to the cylinder block.
4. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a clean cloth and insert it back until it stops.
5. Pull out the dipstick again and check the oil level using the marks on it. The oil level should be between the “cold” and “hot” marks.
6. If the oil level is too low, add the required amount. To do this, use the oil recommended for your specific automatic transmission model.
7. Insert the dipstick back and check the level again. Adjust it as needed.
8. Check for leaks. If you find a leak, you should contact a mechanic.
Note:
*If you are unsure of the exact oil level or type of oil recommended for your automatic transmission, consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
* Check the automatic transmission oil level regularly (usually every 15,000-30,000 km) and change the oil and filter in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
