Volkswagen Tiguan automatic transmission pan gasket

Tools and materials:

* New automatic transmission pan gasket
* Transmission fluid (ATF)
* New pan drain plug
* Tool set
* Liquid trap
* Rags or paper towels

Steps:

1. Safety First: Make sure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, the parking brake is set, and the engine is turned off. Allow the engine to cool.

2. Prepare for work: Place a fluid trap under the automatic transmission pan.

3. Drain the transmission fluid: Locate the drain plug on the automatic transmission pan. Install the fluid trap and loosen the drain plug using a hex wrench. Drain the liquid into the trap.

4. Disconnect the automatic transmission pan: After draining the fluid, locate the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan to the automatic transmission housing. Loosen the bolts with a wrench or ratchet.

5. Remove the automatic transmission pan: Carefully remove the automatic transmission pan, gently tapping it with a rubber hammer if it is stuck. Be careful not to damage the gasket or seals.

6. Replace the gasket: Clean the surface of the automatic transmission pan and automatic transmission housing from the old gasket and sealant. Install a new gasket onto the transmission pan, making sure it is installed correctly.

7. Install the automatic transmission pan: Lift the automatic transmission pan into place and tighten the bolts to the torque specified in the service manual.

8. Tighten the drain plug: Install the new drain plug and tighten it to the torque specified in the service manual.

9. Add transmission fluid: Add the appropriate amount of transmission fluid to the automatic transmission using a funnel. The fluid level should be specified in the service manual.

10. Check the fluid level: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check the fluid level using the automatic transmission dipstick and add or drain fluid if necessary.

11. Check for leaks: Start the engine and check for leaks from the transmission pan. If a leak is found, tighten the bolts or replace the gasket as necessary.
