1. Prepare the car. Place the vehicle on a lift or level surface. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

3. Drain the transmission oil. Place a container under the drain hole of the automatic transmission pan. Loosen the drain plug and drain the oil. Tighten the drain plug back.

5. Clean surfaces. Remove the old gasket from the pan and from the automatic transmission housing. Wipe with a clean cloth or use parts cleaner to remove any remaining oil or dirt.
6. Install a new gasket. Place a new original pan gasket on the transmission housing. Make sure it is level.
7. Install the automatic transmission pan. Carefully install the automatic transmission pan into place, aligning the mounting holes. Tighten the transmission pan bolts to the torque specified in the repair manual for your specific Nissan X-Trail model.
8. Fill with new transmission oil. Using a funnel, pour new transmission oil into the hole in the automatic transmission pan. Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick and add as necessary until the “MAX” mark is reached.
9. Install the automatic transmission oil filter (optional). If you are changing your automatic transmission oil filter, now is the time to do it. Unscrew the old filter and install the new one.
10. Install engine protection. Reinstall the engine protection by tightening the bolts.
11. Connect the negative terminal of the battery. Connect the negative terminal to the battery.
12. Start the engine and check for leaks. Start the X-Trail engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Check the automatic transmission pan for leaks. If there are leaks, check the tightness of the automatic transmission pan bolts.
