Purpose:

The automatic transmission pan drain plug washer serves as a sealing element that prevents transmission fluid from leaking through the transmission pan drain plug.

Design:

Typically, a washer is a round rubber or metal ring with a flat or conical surface. The inner diameter of the washer corresponds to the diameter of the drain plug thread, and the outer diameter is pressed against the surface of the automatic transmission pan.

Materials:

* Rubber (nitrile butadiene rubber, fluoroelastomer)
* Metal (aluminium, copper)

Replacement:

Replacing the automatic transmission pan drain plug washer is an important procedure when servicing the transmission:

1. Gather the necessary tools and a new washer that meets the specifications of your automatic transmission model.
2. Place the car on a lift or jack it up to provide access to the automatic transmission pan.
3. Remove the crankcase protection (if equipped).
4. Clean the area around the pan drain plug.
5. Loosen the drain plug using a suitable tool.
6. Remove the drain plug and old washer.
7. Clean the drain plug and the surface of the pan where the washer is installed.
8. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the new washer.
9. Install a new washer on the drain plug.
10. Tighten the drain plug to the recommended torque.
11. Reinstall the crankcase protection (if removed).

Consequences of untimely replacement:

Failure to replace the automatic transmission pan drain plug washer may result in transmission fluid leakage. A fluid leak can result in low fluid levels, which can lead to damage or failure of the automatic transmission.
