Actions to take when running out of gas in a car with an automatic transmission

1. Stop Safely: When the low fuel light comes on, immediately pull off the road to a safe location.
2. Place the vehicle in Park (P): Shift the gear selector to Park (P).
3. Stop the engine: Turn off the engine by turning the key to the “off” position.
4. Do not try to start the engine again: Repeated attempts to start the engine may damage the fuel pump and other components.
5. Fill up with gas: Call a tow truck or fuel delivery service and ask for enough gas to fill the car.
6. Fill with gasoline and start the engine: Connect the fuel canister and carefully pour gasoline into the tank. Start the engine and make sure it runs normally.

Important:

* Do not drive a vehicle with low fuel levels, especially those with an automatic transmission. This could cause serious damage to the transmission.
*Do not tow an automatic transmission vehicle with empty fuel tanks as this may damage the torque converter.
* If you run out of gas in the middle of a drive, carefully pull off the road to a safe place and park so as not to obstruct other vehicles.
