* New Volvo gear oil (ATF-1 specification)
* New automatic transmission oil filter (part number 31417957)
* Automatic transmission pan gasket (part number 31279944)
* New automatic transmission pan plug (part number 9443226)
* Drain Plug O-Ring (Part No. 9443227)
* 8 mm hex key
* Hex key set
* Funnel
* Oil drain pan
* Gloves
* Rags
Safety:
* Let the engine cool down before starting work.
* Raise the car on a lift and secure it to racks.
* Wear gloves and safety glasses.
* Avoid contact with heated automatic transmission oil.
Instructions:
1. Remove the plastic engine pan: Using an 8mm hex wrench, remove the bolts securing the plastic engine pan. Remove the pan.
2. Locate the automatic transmission pan: Locate the automatic transmission pan located under the transmission.
3. Drain the oil: Place an oil drain pan under the automatic transmission drain hole. Unscrew the drain plug using a hex wrench. Let the oil drain completely.
4. Remove the pan: Loosen the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan using a hex wrench. Carefully remove the tray. Be prepared for some residual oil to leak out of the pan.
5. Replace filter: Remove the old oil filter and install a new one. The filter gasket is usually glued and must be replaced along with the filter.
6. Install new pan: Clean the surface of the pan and install a new gasket. Reinstall the pan and tighten the bolts.
7. Fill with new oil: Using a funnel, pour new transmission oil into the automatic transmission through the dipstick tube. The volume of oil to be filled depends on the car model, but is usually about 5-6 liters.
8. Check the oil level: Start the engine at idle speed and warm it up to operating temperature. Stop the engine and let it sit for about 1 minute. Pull the dipstick out, wipe it dry, and reinsert it. The oil level should be between the “min” marks. and “max.” on the dipstick.
9. Install a new plug and pan: Insert a new gasket into the drain plug and tighten the plug. Place a plastic pan under the engine.
10. Reset the automatic transmission oil life counter: Using a diagnostic scan tool, reset the automatic transmission oil life counter according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

* It is recommended to replace the automatic transmission oil and filter every 60,000 km or in accordance with the vehicle maintenance schedule.
* Use only gear oil recommended by the manufacturer.
* A burnt smell from automatic transmission oil may indicate problems with the internal part of the transmission.
* If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to entrust the automatic transmission oil change to a professional mechanic.
