Guide to changing automatic transmission oil:
1. Prepare the vehicle: Place the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool.
2. Find the automatic transmission oil pan: Look under the car and find the automatic transmission oil pan. It is usually located at the bottom of the gearbox.
3. Drain the old oil: Place an oil drain pan under the automatic transmission oil pan. Loosen the drain plug with a wrench and drain the oil into the pan. Drain approximately 3-4 liters of oil.
4. Remove the oil pan: After draining the oil, remove the bolts securing the oil pan to the transmission. Carefully remove the pan and drain the remaining oil.
5. Replace Oil Pan Filter: Locate and remove the old oil pan filter. Place the new filter in place.
6. Install Oil Pan Gasket: Apply a thin layer of transmission sealant to the new oil pan gasket. Install the gasket to the oil pan.
7. Install the oil pan: Lift the oil pan into place and tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque.
8. Fill with new oil: Using a funnel, pour new ATF WS oil through the dipstick hole. Fill in about 3-4 liters of oil.
9. Check the oil level: Start the engine and let it idle. Shift the gearshift lever to all positions and return to the park position. Stop the engine.
10. Check the oil level using the dipstick: Remove the dipstick, wipe it dry and reinsert it. Pull out the dipstick and check the oil level. It should be between the «HOT» and «COLD» marks on the dipstick.
11. Add oil (if necessary): If the oil level is below the «COLD» mark, add a little more oil through the dipstick hole. Repeat steps 9 and 10 until the oil level is correct.
Adviсe:
* Use only Toyota approved ATF WS oil.
* Check the automatic transmission oil level regularly, every 3-6 months.
* If the automatic transmission oil is dark or has a burnt smell, it is recommended to replace it ahead of schedule.
* If you are not confident in your skills, it is better to have the automatic transmission oil changed by a qualified mechanic.
