Changing the oil in a Rover automatic transmission

Materials required for oil change:

* New automatic transmission oil (check your owner’s manual for recommended oil type and volume)
* New transmission pan gasket
* New oil filter (if applicable)
* Transmission pan plug with new washer
* Tool set (including wrench, screwdriver and funnel)
* Oil collection pan

Oil change procedure:

1. Raise the vehicle: Use a lift or jack to raise the vehicle safely. Install support posts.
2. Locate the transmission pan: This is usually located under the bottom of the transmission.
3. Drain the old oil: Remove the drain plug from the transmission pan. Place a pan to catch the oil under the hole. Drain the old oil.
4. Remove the pan: Carefully remove the transmission pan while holding the bolts.
5. Replace filter (if applicable): Remove the old oil filter. Install a new filter.
6. Clean the pan and surfaces: Clean the pan and transmission surfaces of old oil and debris.
7. Install a new pan gasket: Remove the old gasket and install a new one.
8. Reinstall the transmission pan: Reinstall the transmission pan and tighten the bolts.
9. Install the drain plug: Install the drain plug back into the hole and tighten it with a new washer.
10. Fill with new oil: Using a funnel, pour new automatic transmission oil into the filler hole.
11. Check the oil level: Start the engine and let it idle. Check the oil level using the dipstick and add if necessary.
12. Test Drive: Take a short test drive to check transmission operation and leaks.
