Changing the automatic transmission oil in a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Required materials:
* Engine oil ATF+4 (4 liters)
* New automatic transmission pan gasket
* New automatic transmission oil filter
* 10 mm socket wrench
* Ratchet wrench
* Funnel
* Rags
Procedure:
1. Raise the car. Mount it on a lift or jacks to allow access to the bottom.
2. Warm up the engine. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to warm up the transmission oil.
3. Remove the automatic transmission pan. Locate the automatic transmission pan and unscrew the bolts that secure it. Be careful as oil will spill out of the pan.
4. Remove the oil filter. Unscrew the bolts that secure the oil filter and remove it.
5. Clean the pan and oil filter. Wipe the pan and new oil filter with a clean rag to remove any remaining oil or debris.
6. Install a new oil filter. Insert the new oil filter into the pan and tighten the bolts.
7. Install the automatic transmission pan. Place a new gasket on the pan and attach it to the transmission housing. Tighten the bolts.
8. Fill with new oil. Using a funnel, pour about 4 liters of fresh ATF+4 oil into the automatic transmission.
9. Start the engine and check the oil level. Start the engine and check the oil level using the dipstick. Add oil if necessary.
Notes:
* The oil level should be between the «HOT» and «COLD» marks on the dipstick.
* Change the automatic transmission oil every 60,000 — 80,000 km or more often under severe operating conditions.
*Do not mix different types of ATF oil. Use only the ATF+4 recommended for your Jeep model.
* If you are not confident in your abilities, contact a qualified mechanic to change the automatic transmission oil.
