Tools and materials:
* New Mercedes-Benz gear oil ATF 236.14 (approx. 9 liters)
* New automatic transmission oil pan
* New automatic transmission filter
* New drain plug seal
* Torque wrench
* 8 mm hexagon
* Stiff bristle brush
* Carburetor cleaner
* Funnel
* Container for draining old oil
Replacement procedure:
1. Preparation
* Place the car on a flat surface.
* Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
2. Drain old oil
* Locate the drain plug at the bottom of the automatic transmission oil pan.
* Place a drain container under the plug.
* Carefully unscrew the drain plug using an 8mm hex socket.
* Let the oil drain.
3. Removing the automatic transmission oil pan
* Remove the bolts securing the oil pan to the transmission.
* Carefully remove the oil pan, taking care to drain out any remaining oil.
* Clean the surface of the oil pan and transmission flange using a stiff bristle brush and carburetor cleaner.
4. Replacing the automatic transmission filter
* Locate the automatic transmission filter located in the oil pan.
* Remove the filter and clean the seat.
* Install the new filter into the seat.
5. Installing a new automatic transmission sump
* Install a new seal on the drain plug.
* Reinstall the drain plug.
*Apply a thin layer of sealant to the transmission flange surface.
* Reinstall the oil pan and tighten the bolts to a torque of 10 Nm.
6. Filling with new oil
* Using a funnel, fill the gearbox with new oil. The volume of oil poured is about 9 liters.
* The oil level can be checked using the automatic transmission dipstick.
7. Checking the oil level
* Start the engine and switch to all transmission modes.
* Stop the engine and wait 5 minutes.
* Remove the automatic transmission dipstick and check the oil level. The oil level should be between the «Min» and «Max» marks.
*Add more oil if necessary.
8. Automatic transmission adaptation reset
* After changing the oil, the gearbox adaptation must be reset. To do this, use a diagnostic scanner.
Adviсe:
* Check the automatic transmission oil level every 10,000 km.
* Change automatic transmission oil every 60,000 km or in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
* Use only original Mercedes-Benz ATF 236.14 gear oil.
* It is important to tighten bolts to the correct torque to prevent leaks.
