Gear shift lever

* The gear shift lever is located on the center console.
* Gear markings are located on the lever handle and on the instrument panel.

Basic gear shift modes

P (Parking)

* Set the lever to position P when the vehicle is parked and the engine is stopped.
* The ignition switch must be in the LOCK position.

R (Reverse)

* Move the lever to the R position to engage reverse.
* The engine must be running.
*Press the release button on the lever to switch from Park (P) to Reverse (R) mode.

N (Neutral)

* Set the lever to position N when the car is stopped, for example at a traffic light.
* The engine can be started or stopped.
* Press the unlock button on the lever to shift from Park (P) or Reverse (R) to Neutral (N).

D (Drive)

* Set the lever to position D for normal driving.
* The transmission will automatically shift to the correct gear depending on vehicle speed and engine load.

2/4 (Second/Fourth)

* Set the lever to position 2 or 4 to limit the maximum possible gear.
* In position 2, only first and second gears are available.
* In position 4, only first, second, third and fourth gears are available.
* These modes can be used to improve traction on slippery roads or when towing.

L (Low)

* Set the lever to L to use the lowest gears.
* This mode can be used for riding on rough terrain or when going downhill.

Shift using steering wheel paddles (optional)

* Some Suzuki Grand Vitara models are equipped with steering wheel paddle shifters that allow you to change gears manually.
* To upshift, press the right paddle.
* To downshift, press the left paddle.

Adviсe

* Always stop the vehicle completely before shifting from Park (P) or Reverse (R) to another mode.
* Do not switch between modes while the vehicle is moving.
* Do not keep the vehicle in too low a gear as this may damage the transmission.
* Maintain your automatic transmission regularly to ensure long service life.
