Common automatic transmission faults and solutions

1. Slipping (sliding)

* Reason: Worn clutch friction linings, low transmission fluid level, faulty solenoids.
* Remedy: Replacing friction linings, adding transmission fluid, repairing or replacing solenoids.

2. Difficulty shifting gears

* Cause: Low transmission fluid level, faulty solenoids, mechanical wear.
* Elimination: Topping up transmission fluid, repairing or replacing solenoids, overhauling the gearbox.

3. Kicks and jerks

* Reason: Malfunction of the valve body, wear of the clutch friction linings, low level of transmission fluid.
* Remedy: Repair or replace the valve body, replace friction linings, add transmission fluid.

4. Noise during operation

* Cause: Bearing wear, gear damage, lack of transmission fluid.
* Elimination: Replacement of bearings, gears, adding transmission fluid.

5. Transmission fluid leak

* Cause: Damage to gaskets, seals, pipes or gearbox housing.
* Remedy: Replace damaged components, repair or replace gearbox housing.

6. Overheating

*Cause: Insufficient transmission fluid level, faulty heat exchanger, towing heavy loads.
* Remedy: Adding transmission fluid, repairing or replacing the heat exchanger, reducing the load on the gearbox.

7. Emergency mode

*Cause: Serious transmission problem requiring immediate repair.
* Remedy: Diagnose and repair the problem; the gearbox may need to be overhauled or replaced.

Important:

* Troubleshooting automatic transmissions should be entrusted to qualified specialists.
* Regular maintenance and replacement of transmission fluid will help prevent and eliminate automatic transmission malfunctions.
* Ignoring symptoms of a malfunction can lead to more serious damage and costly repairs.
