How to use the Kia Sportage automatic transmission

Main modes:

*P (Parking): Used to park the vehicle. Blocks the transmission and wheels.
* R (Reverse): Used to drive in reverse.
* N (Neutral): The transmission is not engaged and the engine is idling.
* D (Drive): Basic mode for normal driving. The vehicle automatically shifts between gears for optimal performance and fuel economy.
* S (Sport): Performance mode that keeps the engine at higher rpm for maximum acceleration.
* L (Low): Used for driving at lower speeds, such as on steep inclines or when towing a trailer.

Additional modes:

*Hill Control (HAC): Helps prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards on steep slopes. Activates automatically when driving on an incline.
* Steering Wheel Shift Mode (if equipped): Allows the driver to manually shift between gears using the steering wheel paddle shifters.
*Eco and Sport modes (if equipped): Change engine and transmission settings to optimize fuel economy (Eco) or performance (Sport).

Usage:

1. Start the engine: Depress the brake pedal and move the gear shift lever from Park (P) to the desired position.
2. Start driving: Release the brake pedal and lightly press the accelerator. The car will start moving.
3. Automatic Gear Shift: The automatic transmission will automatically shift between gears, optimizing performance.
4. Manual shift (if equipped): Grasp the steering wheel paddle shifters and pull right to upshift and left to downshift.
5. Park: Stop, press the brake pedal and move the gear lever to Park (P).

Notes:

*Always shift the gearshift while the vehicle is stationary and the brake pedal is depressed.
* Do not switch to Parking mode (P) while driving.
*If you get stuck in snow or mud, try shifting to Low (L) mode for extra torque.
* Regular automatic transmission maintenance (oil and filter changes) is critical to its longevity.
