Possible causes of automatic transmission jolts when reversing:

1. Low transmission fluid level:
* Check the fluid level with the engine off and the selector lever in the ‘Park’ position.
*If the fluid level is low, add the manufacturer’s recommended fluid.

2. Contaminated transmission fluid:
* The automatic transmission fluid becomes contaminated over time and loses its lubricating properties.
* Flushing and replacing the fluid may solve the problem.

3. Faulty motion control valve:
* The valve controls the flow of fluid into the transmission to engage the gears.
* A faulty valve may cause delayed shifting or jerking.

4. Faulty torque converter:
* The torque converter transmits torque from the engine to the automatic transmission.
* A faulty torque converter may cause shock when shifting gears.

5. Problems with electrical equipment:
* Faulty sensors or electronic components may interfere with the operation of the automatic transmission.
* Electrical system testing and diagnostics can identify and correct such problems.

6. Worn clutches:
* Clutches transmit torque between gears.
* Worn clutches can slip and cause shock.

7. Transmission problems:
* Internal mechanical problems with the transmission itself, such as worn gears or bearings, can cause the shaking.

8. Faulty freewheel:
* The freewheel allows the transmission output shaft to rotate independently of the engine.
* A faulty clutch may cause shock when shifting into and out of reverse.

Corrective Action:

* Check and add transmission fluid if necessary.
*Consult a mechanic to diagnose and repair any faulty components.
* If the problem is not resolved after diagnosis and repair, a major overhaul or replacement of the automatic transmission may be required.
